About
This program launched in May 2023 to respond to the migrant crisis in Chicago. We currently support our new neighbors by connecting them to community resources, providing emergency supplies, and linking them to housing options.
Here are some highlights from our work with New Vecinos:
- RESETTLEMENT: Provided over 5,600 families with a basic furniture kit since May 2023. More than 24,000 individuals have transitioned out of shelters, embracing a new chapter with dignity and stability.
- DONATION DISTRIBUTION: Delivered more than 600,000 essential items to shelters thanks to the power of solidarity. Together, we give hope, relief, and dignity to those who need it most.
- TRANSITION TO ONE SHELTER SYSTEM: We served residents at two family shelters with a total capacity of 1,700 (Hyde Park and Midway). We provided wraparound services and fostered community connections for families experiencing homelessness in Chicago, regardless of racial, ethnic, or cultural background.
