"Building bonds with new people on the court and getting a chance to play basketball. Basketball brings people together; it reminds us to have fun and strive for more”
- Jayden Hurtado
About
La Villita Basketball helps high school players develop their basketball skills by doing group and 1 on 1 workouts. We host “hoops in the hood” – a city initiative with over 20 partners across the city to conduct weekly basketball tournaments in the community. We also take youth out of state to compete in various basketball tournaments.
History
La Villita Basketball League was founded in the winter of 2014 in response to the lack of positive recreational basketball leagues in Little Village. Our first two seasons were mainly focused on adults who live in the community but as we progressed, we noticed more youth coming to the gym asking about participating and competing in a safe space. With the amount of violence our youth were facing and lack of organized basketball, we decided to start our high school aged league in April of 2016.
